A little into teenage years, a company of ours would spend countless hours in the forest, surrounded by all sorts of trees and flowers. We would stop by jasmin bushes, building fires and burning marshmallow. The air was replete with quiet voices telling stories and sharing secrets. These were the moments when we felt most genuine and close.

Jerusalem is famous for its abundance of gardens. One of them, full of pear and apple trees, was the place for private meetings with my one and only. We used to go on picnics, just us, bringing tiramisu cakes that he artistically cooked himself. We would spend hours surrounded by the sea of wildflowers, enjoying white tea, calm evening and each other's embrace.

There was that boy whose family owned a small bakery down the street. He would often visit us bringing with him the smell of fresh berries and vanilla, these were main ingredients in pastry that he enjoyed cooking. I grew to love them as well, it was hard not to. Especially when we ended up spending all our free time together, quietly talking and shyly holding hands in his backyard full of roses and violets.

Living in Jerusalem means being surrounded by all sorts of plants, flowers and trees. Once in a while we would set off on an adventure to explore this unique world of nature. Sometimes we would walk around till late night рours, lying under a huge eucalyptus tree, telling mysterious stories in hushed voices.

Not far from our house there was an immense field full of different flowers. I loved to walk there, accompanied by my little sisters. We would often play tag, running through an endless sea of flowers on a sunny day, genuinely laughing and enjoying every second of life.
When we would grow tired, we would rest under old trees, making flower crowns for each other and one as a present for our mother.

Observing my own children grow, I cannot help remembering my own childhood: surrounded by love and affection, air filled with constant laugh and deep voice of my father, who often read stories aloud. Visiting my parents' home when I became older always felt special. We would revive good old times, cooking our favourite waffles. Our father would gladly join us in our antics, he had a couple of raspberry bushes in the backyard. He knew exactly which berries would suit best to our little dessert. Having finished the treat, we would gather at the dinner table, enjoying some bergamot tea and quiet, comfortable conversation.

It was a special pleasure for me to look through the books, choose one and spend the whole evening in his leather armchair, submerging into different worlds full of mysteries and smart protagonists.
